Introducing a new kind of accounting firm, 20 years in the making.
We strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance that prioritizes family more than working excessive hours.
We hire single moms to staff our woman-owned business.
We make it easy for you to turn in your documents via a new, accessible online portal (with phone app!) and after-hours drop box.
We’re not too cool for school, and complete continuing education every year.
When others raise their eyebrows at client spending habits, we keep our eyebrows to ourselves.
And, when lots of companies claim to be a family, we actually practice what we preach. We break bread together, give each other rides, and pitch in when someone needs help — especially when that someone is a client.
This is Personal Financial Services, serving Bloomington, IN and beyond.
We’re The Real Deal
Elizabeth Ruh (she/her)
CEO
Elizabeth is a Bloomington native, dedicated community volunteer, and the founder of Personal Financial Services. She has more than 20 years of experience as an accountant and is an IRS Enrolled Agent — a federal designation she requires every preparer on the Tax Services team to meet as well. Elizabeth loves running her business by example: as a single mom, she encourages a healthy work-life balance among the staff; as a business owner, she makes her own company flexible with and accessible to others; and as a community steward, she’s committed to making her business inclusive of those with unique needs. With a strong team behind her, Elizabeth and Personal Financial Services are on a mission to make it possible for both her clients and her staff to improve their financial quality of life and reach their goals.
Caylan Akerson (she/her)
Tax Administrator
Caylan is a natural fit for the Tax Services side of our business. Between her experience as a bank teller, penchant for organization, and a love of helping people, she’s right at home at Personal Financial Services. Our clients love Caylan because she’s easygoing and a glass-half-full kind of gal.
Kristin Bell (she/her)
Office Manager
Walk into our Bloomington office or call our phone line, and you already know Kristin. She joined the team in 2017 with experience in both accounting and serving the elderly and disabled communities. It’s hard to feel stressed around Kristin — she brings a thoughtful touch and lively energy to our front office.
Amanda Borders (she/her)
Guardianship Client Care Assistant
The witty, considerate and sports-obsessed Amanda joined us in 2021. She brings a unique perspective to the Fiduciary Services side of the business, having been a caregiver herself for a disabled loved one. If you’re lucky enough to work with Amanda, know that she has the expertise to manage your loved one’s health needs and emergency situations.
Khadija “Kat” Danbala (she/her)
File Clerk
If you have recently submitted a document to Personal Financial Services, then you’ve worked with Kat. She joined the team in 2021 and is in charge of our filing system, document scanning, and offsite file storage. Kat is a devoted, hard worker and makes us laugh with her clever comments.
Adrienne Kozacek (she/her)
Bookkeeping Assistant
Adrienne may have only worked with us since 2019, but she brings more than 20 years of business finance experience to the office. Whether it’s creating multi-million dollar budgets, maintaining business records, or pulling together a client’s data to get a picture of their life through numbers, we love Adrienne because of her industriousness and creativity.
Eli Mahaffey (he/him)
File Clerk
Longtime clients may not recognize Eli’s face around the office, but he’s been an important part of our team since early 2019. He’s a Bloomington native we can trust with any job, from processing sensitive documents, to organizing files, to impeccable recordkeeping. He said his favorite part of his job is the flexibility and his coworkers. Aw shucks, Eli!
Nicole McNamara (she/her)
Administrative Assistant
A late 2021 addition to the team, Nicole fits right in at Personal Financial Services. She brings several years of administrative experience to the role and lives for the fast-paced environment. Get to know Nicole, and you’ll quickly see that she’s fast with her work, easy to talk with, and will make you laugh.
Kirsten Wagner (she/her)
Tax Manager/Executive Assistant
Kirsten is Elizabeth’s right hand woman and helps keep the Tax Services side of the business in check. She has a reputation for being compassionate and takes the time to explain our clients’ full financial picture to them so taxes become less scary. Kirsten is also popular with our small business clients, who she saves time by completing payroll and bookkeeping.
